Lagos State Government Reminds Taxpayers Of March 31st Deadline For Annual Tax Return Submission.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has issued a formal notice to all taxpayers, including self-employed individuals and employees under the PAYE Scheme, to submit their Annual Tax Returns before March 31, 2024. This requirement is by the Personal Income Tax Amendment Act (PITA) Cap P8 2011.

Mr. Ayodele Subair, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, emphasized the importance of meeting the deadline to avoid penalties and other legal consequences. According to Section 41 of the Amendment Act, all taxable entities must provide a tax return within 90 days of the start of each assessment year, reflecting their total income from all sources in the previous fiscal year.

To facilitate compliance, Mr. Subair stated that tax returns should be submitted exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal, accessible at https://etax.lirs.net. He also urged all taxable entities in Lagos State to register on the eTax portal, which offers convenience, security, and ease of use.

To assist individuals with online registration and tax return submissions, dedicated tax officers are available at various tax stations. Taxpayers with filing or tax-related inquiries can contact the LIRS customer service centre at 0700 CALL LIRS (0700 2255 5477) or via email at etaxinfo@lirs.net. Further information can be obtained from LIRS’s website at www.lirs.gov.ng or by engaging with LIRS through social media platforms.
