CBN Board Nominee, Rejects Appointment

Mr Urum Kalu Eke, who was nominated as a member of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors, has declined the offer. He mentioned that he is currently engaged with the World Bank. Thus was unavoidably unavailable for the role. 

This information was revealed during the Senate’s Thursday plenary session, where the confirmation process for the nominees began. President Bola Tinubu had submitted Urum’s name, along with four others, on February 13 for confirmation as board members of the CBN. 

However, during the confirmation, Senator Orji Kalu, the former Governor of Abia State, informed the Senate that Urum, who is from his constituent, had contacted him to reject the offer. Urum explained that accepting the position would conflict with his current role as a consultant for the World Bank, various Federal Government agencies, and private companies. 

However, the Senate confirmed the appointment of the other four nominees namely: Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu
