Rivers Governor Rewards Super Eagles Goalkeeper with N20 Million for AFCON Performance

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State hosted the Super Eagles team on February 16, 2024, where he announced special recognition and rewards for goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Nwabali, who hails from Rivers State, put in stellar performances between the posts for the Super Eagles at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Impressed by Nwabali’s outstanding displays in goal for the national team, Governor Fubara awarded him a cash prize of N20 million. He also named the shot-stopper the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State in recognition of bringing pride to the state.

The governor also announced an N30 million donation to the entire Super Eagles crew who were present during the event. In his remarks, Fubara heaped praises on Nwabali for flying the Rivers flag high with his goalkeeping exploits in the AFCON tournament.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing enabling support and encouragement for Rivers citizens pursuing honours in their chosen fields. Fubara stated his goal was to create an environment where residents feel motivated to excel and always represent the state positively.

The governor lauded the Super Eagles for their efforts and vowed his government would continue empowering the people of Rivers through purposeful and meaningful leadership.
