Super Eagles of Nigeria are now the 28th-best football team in the World – FIFA

The Super Eagles have made a significant jump of 14 places in the latest FIFA men’s ranking, which was released on Thursday 15th February 2024. The Nigerian national team has climbed from the 42nd position to the 28th position in the world. This is remarkable. Additionally, they have moved from the sixth position to the third position in Africa, according to the new ranking by the World Football governing body.

This remarkable achievement marks the highest position for the national team over a decade now. The notable progress can be attributed to the Super Eagles’ impressive performance in the recently concluded African Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire, where they finished as the runners-up and secured the silver medal. Throughout the competition, the Eagles maintained an unbeaten run, although they were defeated 2-1 by Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.

As a result of their commendable performance, Cote d’Ivoire also experienced an improvement in their ranking, moving from the 49th position to the 39th position in the world. Meanwhile, Morocco and Senegal have maintained their positions as the top-ranked African teams.

In the overall global rankings, Argentina retained the number one spot, with France and Brazil holding onto the second and third positions, respectively.

The FIFA Men’s World Ranking serves as a rating system established by the football’s world governing body for men’s national teams in association football. The ranking is based on the teams’ performance in international matches recognized by FIFA, with points awarded according to the outcomes of these matches.

The next release of the FIFA World Ranking is scheduled for April 4, 2024.
